Dermatologist. He has been working for many years at Ospedali Riuniti of Bergamo (now Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital) and is convinced that research and clinical practice cannot be separate. He has been an investigator with the Istituto Mario Negri of Milan and Visiting Professor at the University of Geneva. He has been appointed a honorary member of the Societé Française de Dermatologie and Director of Centro Studi GISED. His challenge is to do research in Italy independently from industrial interests and outside the usual appointed places such as the university. He evidently succeeds thanks to a splendid and vital heterogeneous working group. Long-live freedom!

Prof. Carlo Gelmetti is the head of the Operating Unit of Pediatric Dermatology at Hospital Maggiore IRCCS in Milan and since 2002 he has been Professor of Dermatology at the University of Milan. He is Professor at the School of Specialization in Dermatology and Venereology, Ist Postgraduate School of Pediatrics, University of Milan. Prof. Gelmetti is the author of more than 300 international scientific publications. He is also a member of several scientific societies such as the Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (SIDEMAST), the International Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ISPD), the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ESDP), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American Dermatological Association (ADA) and foreign correspondent member of the Société Française de Dermatologie et vénéréologie Sociedad Chilena de Dermatología y Venereología. He is also an honorary member of the Sociedad Argentina de Dermatology and Serbian Society of Dermatology and Venereology. Prof. Gelmetti is a member of the Editorial Board of "European Journal of Pediatric Dermatology", the official organ of the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology, vice-president and general delegate of the International Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ISPD), member of the Board of the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ESDP), Board Member of "The Foundation La Roche Posay", Founder and Board Member of the European Task Force on Atopic Dermatits (ETFAD), Coordinator of Activities in Pediatric Dermatology Update for the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). He has held management tasks with Societies and National Scientific Groups: Former President of the Italian Society of Pediatric Dermatology (SIDERP), Chairman of the Standing Conference for therapeutic education Atopic Dermatitis, Founder and National Coordinator of the Atopy School.
Carlo La Vecchia
Prof. La Vecchia graduated in Medicine from the University of Milan, he got a Master degree in Clinical Medicine (Epidemiology) from Oxford University and a degree in Pharmacology Research from "Mario Negri" Institute in Milan. Head of General Epidemiology Laboratory at the Pharmacological Research Institute "Mario Negri", Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Milan. He is also Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Lausanne, Switzerland (since 2002) and Adjunct Professor of Medicine, School of Medicine, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, (2002-2009). His main topics of interest include cancer epidemiology and the risk associated with oral contraceptives, tobacco, diet, occupational or environmental exposures to toxic agents, analysis of temporal trends and geographical distribution of mortality from cancer, cardiovascular diseases, perinatal and other major diseases. He is author or coauthor of more than 1,480 publications on these topics, which have received more than 52,000 citations. Prof. La Vecchia was Adjunct Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health (1996-2001), and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Stomatological Medicine at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London (1996-2003). He is Senior Advisor at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, IARC/WHO and the World Health Organization in Geneva, he is a registered physician and journalist in Milan.
Graduated in languages and literature, she had worked in the foreign subsidiary of two major insurance companies and was then appointed to manage two major insurance agencies for 8 years. She is registered as a professional journalist in the Italian Federation of Journalists - established under Article 28 of Law n° 69 of 02/03/1969. President of ADIPSO (Association for the Defense of psoriasis), a non-profit organization she founded in 1989, being herself a psoriatic and arthropathic patient. Member of the Commission for Self-Help, a group established by the Ministry of Health Decree No. 1545 for chronic diseases. Here she worked for the recognition of psoriasis as a social and disabling disease (ref. law n ° 226). She put a lot of effort in research programs with the Institute of Rheumatology, University of Rome "La Sapienza", with the Department of Human Genetics, University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and the University of studies of L'Aquila. Currently she is pursuing a project funded by the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Institute S. Gallicano, the IDI institute of Rome and the Dermatology Clinic of the University of Tor Vergata in Rome. Member from April 2004 of the Executive Committee of EPF (European Patients' Forum) within the European Community in Brussels. President of F.I.M.De. (Italian Federation of dermatological diseases). Honorary Member of the Italian Scientific Dermatological Societies SIDEMAST and ADOI and the Scientific Society of Dermatology of the Czech Republic. Since January 2010 she is part of GRAPPA (Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis) and of EULAR (The European League Against Rheumatism); from April 2010 she is member of the Observatory of Health of the Italian Republic Senate. She is member of the working group Psocare.
Piergiacomo Calzavara Pinton
Prof. Calzavara Pinton is Director of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Brescia, and Head of the Dermatology Department of the Spedali Civili Hospital in Brescia. He is General Director of the Italian Society of Dermatology, member of the Scientific Committee of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and President of the Italian Group of Photodermatology (GIFDE) of the Italian Society of Dermatology (SIDEV), as well as being a member of several European and Italian scientific dermatological societies. Since 1996 he has been professor at the School of laser therapy at the National Cancer Institute of Milan. Since 2002 he has been teaching at the graduate schools of Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Microbiology, Immunology, Rheumatology, Urology and Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Brescia. Since January 2005 he has been Associate Professor of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Brescia. He is the author of 164 publications indexed in PubMed.
Roberto Labianca (Vice-President of the steering committee)
Prof. Labianca graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan, post-graduated in Oncology at the University of Genoa and in Allergology and Immunology at the University of Milan. He is currently Head of the Department of Oncology and Hematology of Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital and of the Intercompany Oncology Department of the Province of Bergamo. Member of numerous scientific societies, he is currently chairman of CIPOMO - Italian College of Hospital Head Medical Oncologists. He is the author of over 260 scientific publications on the most important international journals, and member of the Editorial Board of "Tumori" official organ of AIOM and SIC, "Quaderni di Cure Palliative - Rivista Italiana di Cure Palliative" official organ of the SICP, "Techne" Update in Oncology and Hematology, "Annals of Oncology" and "Cancer" (Italian ed.). He was speaker at numerous national and international courses and conferences, and Adjunct Professor of Medical Oncology at the School of Specialization in Oncology, University of Insubria and University of Pavia. His main areas of interest are related to the specific anti-tumor therapy and support for patients suffering from all solid tumors (especially gastrointestinal, breast, and lung cancer), palliative care (simultaneous care and end of life treatments) and multidisciplinary integration with experienced specialists in individual diseases.
