GISED Young

We are a subgroup of GISED (Gruppo Italiano Studi Epidemiologici in Dermatologia) made up of young dermatologists and professionals with statistical expertise united by the desire to promote independence and excellence in clinical epidemiological research. Our goal is to enhance the understanding and management of dermatological conditions through advanced methodological approaches and high-quality studies. We are dedicated to working together to create a network of young dermatologists and statisticians who share our passion for rigorous and transparent research.

Our primary areas of interest include:

  • Disease classification: we employ innovative statistical approaches, such as latent class analysis, to establish accurate and efficient classification systems for dermatological conditions. Our aim is to contribute to a better understanding of variations and subclasses of skin diseases, providing useful tools for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Etiological studies: we conduct case-control studies to identify etiological risk factors associated with dermatological conditions. Through sophisticated statistical analysis, we strive to uncover the underlying causes of skin diseases and identify potential preventive strategies.
  • Short-term cohort studies: we design short-term cohort studies to monitor the course of dermatological conditions and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Using advanced statistical methods, we aim to identify prognostic factors and assess the impact of therapies on patients' quality of life.
  • Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs): we conduct meta-analyses to synthesize the results of existing RCTs in the field of dermatology. This enables us to gain a comprehensive understanding of treatment efficacy and identify the best therapeutic options. For such an activity, a collaboration with the Cochrane Skin group could be envisaged.
  • Conduct of pragmatic randomized trials of interventions mainly focusing on treatment strategies rather than individual drugs/procedures, especially in neglected clinical areas.
  • Statistical analysis of Global Burden of Disease data: we would utilize data from the Global Burden of Disease to estimate the incidence, prevalence, and impact of dermatological conditions on a global scale. This allows us to highlight challenges and priorities in the field of dermatology and contribute to improved allocation of healthcare resources.

We are committed to providing our members with opportunities for active participation in group activities. The benefits of joining GISED Young include:

  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses on statistical methodology and clinical epidemiology, aimed at enhancing the technical skills of our members.
  • Annual participation in a group congress where we showcase study findings, discuss new ideas, and set future objectives.
  • Connection with the European Dermato-epidemiology Network (EDEN) and participation in the annual meetings of the group.

Join us in our mission to advance dermatological research, contribute to the scientific community, and improve patient health by working together.
