What we do
This epidemiological study on atopic dermatitis promoted by Centro Studi GISED aimed at:
It started in 2007 and included 1081 newborns in several maternity wards of Bergamo and province, with follow-up at 6 and 12 months. Given the limited knowledge on the possible causes related to the development of the disease, the study aimed at depicting a profile of the potential risk factors, providing an estimate of their relevance and strength of association with the disease (allergy familiarity, life and eating habits of children and their families).
The study was unable to document associations with other perinatal factors, particularly breast feeding and parental smoking in the perinatal period.
