Melanocytes transplantation and excimer laser in vitiligo

What we do

melanocyteVitiligo is a cutaneous disease characterized by the appearance of depigmented areas due to loss of functional melanocytes. Psychological and social problems related to disease, especially in younger individuals, can be serious and hard to overcome.

Unfortunately at the moment a cure for patients with vitiligo is not available. Treatment can only rely on the induction of repigmentation of the ipochromic spots or on depigmentation of residual pigmented areas.

For this purpose, combination of different methods may be an efficient way to speed up clinical response.

Centro Studi GISED, in collaboration with CeLiveR laboratories and Fondazione Centro San Raffaele del Monte Tabor, is conducting preclinical research aimed at developing a method for isolation and expansion in vitro of outer sheath melanocyte of the hair follicle (ORSM).
The intent is to lay the groundwork for a randomized controlled clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of transplantation of autologous cultured follicular melanocytes in association with excimer laser treatment, compared to only excimer laser, in repigmentation of stable vitiligo lesions.

Opening of the trial will be announced on the site, in the section " Are you interested in participating?".
